Anna van Zundert (they/them) is a film director from the Netherlands, born in the year 2000. They are currently based in Brussels.
In 2020 they started their studies of audiovisual arts at Sint Lukas, Brussels, where they have their focus on gaining experience with creating film in multiple forms and trying out a diverse range of methods concerning directing and film making. During their studies, they have made several fictional short films and short documentaries; telling stories that are socially relevant, whilst staying personal in their work.
In 2023, they have made the short documentaries Noa and Luis, portraying (the exploration of) the gender identity of themself and their close friends. The personal approach has resulted in the education of part of the audience on gender queerness, and it has inspired people to start exploring their own gender identity.
Currently in post-production is their film Love Has Gone Elsewhere. It is a fictional film telling the story of two queer people part of a theater troupe, whose different approaches towards their moral stances against capitalism results in them experiencing problems in their relationship, and the decline of their health and creativity, as they try to keep their artistic authenticity in a capitalist creative scene. It is shot in Porto, with a cast and crew from all over the world.
Anna van Zundert is currently working on their bachelor film, which is a fictional film exploring the themes mental health, distanciation and loneliness. After their bachelors, they are inspired to delve back into documentary film making, as both these forms excite them to tell personal stories.
