Rethinking how we teach about film festivals

Dear All, we are looking for academic staff partners from (at least) two other institutions to join us for Collegium Mobility proposal with the deadline in June 2025:

Our goal is to learn best practices and to explore how students can meaningfully engage with international film festivals through self-curated experiences and creative reflection, focusing on multiplicity of personal experiences a festival can provide. Our aim emerges from a lack of systematic engagement of our students from the Department of Film Studies (VŠMU) with the international film festivals area and artistic research practices.

Our goal is to co-develop a teaching method that blends theory, practice, and artistic research – encouraging students to attend  film festivals and independently navigate festival programs and reflect their experiences through essays, video works, or performative formats as a rethinking of festival reporting practices.

The possible collaboration outcomes:

  • short staff mobility to exchange teaching methods
  • Joint syllabus development
  • Possibility of a shared pilot course / BIP

We're thinking of different possible forms of collaboration – from short-term mobility focused on best practices sharing, to developing course syllabus that could be taught in the future.
