We are excited to announce that the third Óbidos Cultural Game Jam has kicked off on February 4th, bringing together students from Lusófona University and the Josefa de Óbidos High School. This initiative fosters creativity, collaboration, and cultural exploration through interactive game-making activities.
In the morning, the young participants engaged in various workshops and activities. They attended a session on using the Twine tool led by Wilson Almeida, who is overseeing the game jam, and explored the historic town of Óbidos with Bruno Silva from the Municipality of Óbidos. This guided tour not only provided insight into the town’s rich history but also highlighted its connection to the Carnation Revolution. Additionally, participants were tasked with collecting specific objects for an afternoon activity with Professor Inês Marques (UL).
The afternoon session featured two creative workshops designed to enhance artistic and collaborative skills. Professor Inês Marques guided students in the creation of images through shadow theatre, while Professor Hugo Barata led a group dynamic focused on fostering teamwork, communication, and creativity. To conclude the day's activities, participants reflected on their experiences by summarising key takeaways in keywords such as “Unity,” “Revolution,” “Cooperation,” and “Equality.”
This event is part of the EPIC-WE (Empowered Participation through Ideating Cultural Worlds and Environments) project, which is a Horizon Europe-funded initiative under the FilmEU Cosmos. EPIC-WE aims to empower young people to engage in shaping European culture and their own future by ‘imagining, creating, and exchanging cultural values and heritage through game-making.’
Stay tuned for more updates on the outcomes of the game jam and the innovative projects developed by the participants!
