The European University Association (EUA) welcomed the European Commission’s proposal for the next Multiannual Financial Framework (2028–2034), highlighting the importance of keeping Horizon Europe and Erasmus+ as stand-alone programmes.
This proposal reaffirmed the role of education, research, and innovation as strategic pillars for Europe's future.
Within the Erasmus+ programme, the continuation of the European Universities Initiative was emphasised.
Despite the proposed budget increase, concerns remain regarding the programme’s capacity to meet long-standing priorities and respond to inflation. EUA called for further reinforcement to ensure the programme’s full impact.
